Women played an extraordinary range of roles in espionage and military intelligence during both world wars, as historian and author Helen Fry explains. Extensive research for her latest book Women in Intelligence: The Hidden History of Two World Wars, uncovered inspirational contributions by remarkable women, whether interrogating prisoners, operating espionage networks and escape lines, or being parachuted behind enemy lines. Civilian women also undertook vital managerial, administrative and analytical work, interpreting aerial images for example.
The author of more than 25 books, Helen specialises in World War II. In 2023 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Jewish Military History and Education, and is an ambassador for the Military Intelligence Museum.
Helen’s presentation will be followed by wine and cocktail snacks. Signed copies of Helen’s book will be available to purchase.
